One of my all-time favorite events to be printed in Martha Stewart Weddings… Minhee Park and Truman Cho share their April 15, 2006 California grade-school sweetheart wedding. Having met in the 4th grade, the two stayed friends throughout high school and college but it took 14 years for Truman to ask Minhee out on their first date.  Fast forward to the result… a wedding full of whimsy, charm and delicate little details.

Notes on just a few of the details…

The bride and groom get nostalgic for photos by posing at small school desks.

Table settings included guest’s names outlined in chalk on rolls of black paper, single-flower arrangements set in vintage milk bottles, lattes bowls and tumblers and votive candles held in scalloped paper bags added a touch of luminary.

As owner of a design studio in Brooklyn called Paper + Cup, Minhee was able to create a custom school themed letterpress invitation suite. The invitations, maps and attendance reports, serving as reply cards, were each printed on vintage notebook paper. All components were then slipped into small manilla folders printed with the recipient’s name(s) and placed in envelopes stamped special delivery and closed with a round seal stamp stating the wedding date.

The groom and his groomsmen showed off their colorful patterned socks, a playful tradition they adopted for each friend’s wedding.

A desk loaned from a nearby school held apples which served as seating cards. Each apple carried a number sticker and sat atop a piece of vintage graph paper that read each guest’s name in perfect penmanship.  The placard on the desk paid tribute to Minhee and Truman’s fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Cogan.

Vintage lunch trays were supplied for each guest to receive their dinner cafeteria-style.   For dessert, ice cream was served in petite paper cups. All wooden utensils were hot-stamped with the couple’s names, and paper napkins were rubber stamped with the date.

A large blackboard served as the guest-book station. Guests were able to draw and write messages for the couple and capture their remarks on polaroid.  An already assembled scrapbook bearing photo corners was set at the station to hold the polaroids and guests could include any additional comments.

Adults received favors of custom school supplies and handmade journals in brown paper bags and kids got paper pails filled with toys and candy. The tops of the kid pails were sprayed with chalkboard paint and the names were written in chalk.

My favorite detail: guests were asked to take ‘pop quizzes’ about the couple and deposit them in drop boxes covered in paper. Minhee and Truman graded the quizzes and mailed them with their thank-you notes after the wedding.

This affair gets an A+ for effort and execution.

Hi, i will like to know where can i buy those pretty ice cream papercups displayed in the photo above?

    • Hi Sarah,
I have asked Minhee, the bride, where she got the paper cups, as I couldn’t find colored versions and am awaiting her response. In the interim, if you want white cups Solo makes a bunch of sizes. The ice cream cup imparticular is called a souffle portion cup which you can find at webstaurantstore.com
