My Mother-in-law turned 70 at the start of the year and what a better way to celebrate than throw her a very feminine tea party.
I thrifted the tea pot and new I would use it to make our centerpiece filled with flowers, which was then a gift for my MIL to take home. The rest of the table decor I already owned; some paper doilies for a runner, my heirloom china and crystal, the Amber bud vases come as a set of 10 and I use them year round, the brass candle sticks are from our wedding, also thrifted, and the candle sticks you can find a similar group here. One of my absolute favorite products is Stick-Um it holds your tapers in the candle stick holders like glue and then I don’t have to be fearful they will tip over when lit.
Of the whole tablescape, one of my favorite details was the rose napkin fold. It was surprisingly very easy to do and I had the leaves leftover from making floral crowns at my sister-in-laws bachelorette. You can find the instructions for it here.
The pink and gold foil streamer backdrop by Ginger Ray I found at Ellie and Piper party E-boutique. I then added the letter banner and a few pink balloons.
The menu consisted of lots of finger foods; cucumber sandwiches, sour cream stuffed tater tot cups, mini croissant chicken salad sandwiches, egg casserole cups, crab pasta salad, and creamed strawberries which rested on each tea cup along with a sugar stick. Everything we made day of with the help of my sister and brother in law. The 3 tier service stand helped to save space on the table, you can find a similar stand here.
For the drinks we served a champagne toast inclusive of macarons, wine, pink lemonade, iced tea, hot tea and hot chocolate for the kiddos.
My sister-in-law found this sweet Seventy things we love about you print on Etsy. We asked family members to each contribute to the gift and I printed it at a local print shop and framed it. My sister-in-law read them out loud during our party and of course brought tears to my MIL’s eyes.
The dessert course consisted of traditional scones, some pop tarts turned snail mail, chocolate truffles and I took store bought brownie bites and wafers and dressed the up with some strawberry frosting.
One of the nicest ways to celebrate a milestone birthday is pulling together photos from their past. I made a slideshow of around 30 pictures that we shared it over a zoom toast with a few friends and family. Any way that you can share or present the pictures it is always fun to see someone throughout the decades.
