Just a few of my favored finds from the NYC Gift Show last week… Bold colorful patterns of paper as banners, boxes, and wrap by Smock. Lots of character for Kid friendly decorating: wall paper, stickers, bedding and plush accessories by Ferm Kids. His & Hers chef aprons that stay true to masculinity & femininity by Pom Pom at Home.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love to rubber stamp. Before the Gocco, home letterpress machines, and high tech printers, stamping was about the only way to dress up greetings with a professional looking graphic. For much less cost and with a little elbow greece stationery can be colored, patterned and decorative. Repeat stamps in full or bleed graphics off an edge for an edited adaptation of the look. I frequently recommend to brides that love the look of letterpress but can’t afford to do the whole suite, to stamp their envelopes and accessories (a graphic crossing over a fold or flap is my favorite.) I also have been known to gift a stamp or two: rubber stamps make great gifts for couples doing wedding stationery and for children they can be used on notes, clothing labels, and as book plates. My go-to resource for custom stamps here in NYC is Ink Pad on 8th Avenue, I could spend hours looking at their collections. See below a few splendid stamping examples…

Here is just a small showing of the impressions made from this years National Stationery Show in NYC. A mix of hand calligraphy and painted illustrations make Rifle Paper Co stand out as the best new stationer to be added to the show… A hand made booth boutique painted with stripes, the stationer’s silhouette, a post box and colorful envelope shingles…in my opinion parcel perfection! Everyone that loves paper leaves the show feeling that their next snail mail must be absolutely fabulous - hence the perfect take home, vintage stamps… A library of letterpress: box sets inspired by textile and decorative patterns from around the world. Just one wouldn’t do them justice… Love how handmade takes on a new meaning when the creatures in design are brought to life. These felt owls are clever and cute… 05.09.10
Moms typically give of themselves tremendously without asking for very much in return. Today make sure that your Mom feels special, loved and pampered because the truth is she deserves it. Make a card, bring her breakfast in bed, supply her with a certificate for the ultimate spa experience. Do all the little things around the house that she may do every day without a single complaint. Today she should be able to appreciate being a Mom without the every day stresses of raising a family. To all the Moms that nurture and love unconditionally, Happy Mother’s Day!
